I feel lucky to be able to photograph any couple’s engagement session, but sometimes a little extra lucky when they put their trust in me from across the globe!

Andrea and Josh are both located in Petaluma, California, and by some strange series of events, Andrea ended up on my Instagram one day after looking at another florists work. She and I immediately connected and the next thing I knew, I was flying to the other side of the continent to shoot their engagement session at one of their favourite places!

From the bride, Andrea:

Josh and I met when he had just moved to Novato and was testing the waters of online dating. I was moving to Petaluma from San Francisco, so it was happenstance that we both got online at the same time and found each other. We had our first date was at Lagunitas Brewing Company in Petaluma, a local brewery where we ate soft pretzels and beer and tried to talk over the loud live music. By the time the night ended, I felt like I had known him forever!

We now live in West Petaluma, and are quite close to the coast! When it came time for Josh to propose, he took note of our love for the ocean and set up a beautiful dinner overlooking the water on top of a little outcropping of rocks on a trip to Sayulita, Mexico. Midway through the meal he took me out to the edge of the cliff, got down on one knee and proposed! It was so romantic and sweet. He had a speech prepared but I think he forgot most of it. Then we enjoyed the rest of dinner and even s’mores by a fire they’d set up for us!

I am a floral designer by trade, so after seeing so many engagement sessions and weddings, I knew it was important to find a location that spoke to us to really make the session our own. Some of our most fun memories took place at Point Reyes and the surrounding area on little weekend getaways, so it seemed beyond fitting that we have the shoot there! We did a little scouting and found the Cypress Tree Tunnel, which is just so unique and naturally beautiful. We really wanted to incorporate the beach for the second half of our session, and Kayla ended up finding the perfect clifftop spot at Drake’s Beach for us! It felt like the area’s we chose really represented both of us, where we live, and some of our favorite things! Once I added in a bouquet and flower crown that I designed for myself, it really felt like us. It couldn’t have been a better reflection of our lives together!

Special thank you to all of the vendors involved in this session!
