muskoka wedding and family photographer

why work with me?

about kayla

Your photographs are about so much more than a share on social media — they're investments in your family's story.

Marrying my husband Stephen back in 2019 completely changed the way that I approach storytelling today. When I look at the teary-eyed photos taken when he proposed, or a candid of our parents laughing together during our wedding reception, all I see is how cherished they’ll be when we flip through our albums thirty years from now. This is why I've spent years cultivating a timeless, romantic style that steers clear of trends. Your photos will feel the same way when you're looking at them with your grandchildren as they did when you saw them for the very first time.

There is a reason that I stay
in my clients lives long after our time together is over.

My husband and I have regular dinner plans with Stef and Jeff, we refer to Sandra and Corey's dog Jasper as our dogs "boyfriend," and I've now been photographing Makarena and Adam's growing family for five years running. My approach to photographing people is centred around building relationships full of comfort and trust so that I can capture work that is an honest reflection of who you are at your core. If we leave our time together feeling like we've gained a true friendship, I've done my job well.

My daughter means the world to me. Any bride is lucky to have Kayla!

When your daughter says to you the day after her wedding "Kayla made me feel special all day, I'm so glad I got to spend it with her" you know you made the right choice. Well, there was no choice really! Kayla's photos speak for themselves as does her professionalism. It's her lovely, kind personality that sets her apart. She's amazing!

I'm notorious Swiftie who will happily agree to play her whole discography on a bluetooth speaker during our photo session. Feel free to ask me about surviving four hours of "shelter-in-place" orders during Nashville N3 - iykyk.

At any given time, you can expect for there to be a half-empty suitcase on the floor of my laundry room in "preparation" for my next trip. Photographing weddings, elopements, and even portrait sessions worldwide has been such an unexpected joy in my life and I'm always ready for a red eye flight!

Stephen and I spent our honeymoon camping throughout Scotland in a rooftop tent on top of a Land Rover Defender 110. We loved the experience so much that we bought one for home and frequently make trips throughout Northern Ontario with it!

If we ever have a Zoom call, it is a guarantee that our dogs Gus and Ollie will be on the other side of my office door acting like toddlers in the middle of a time out. They're the true loves of my life (don't worry, my husband has already been informed many times and is at peace with his standing).

I've been compared to Leslie Knope on multiple occasions because of my unmatched ability to hype people up and affinity to pre-plan. Galentine's Day should be an internationally recognized holiday.

Film is what I reach for when I'm documenting my own life, so every single wedding and portrait session that I document includes medium format and 35mm film by default. Shooting with such a thoughtful physical medium has brought so much intentionality back to my work.
