“What is your dream wedding?”
I get asked this question almost every single time I am meeting with a new bride who is considering hiring me for her wedding, and every single time I dance around the question without an answer that I can put into words. So to all of the brides who still have this looming unanswered question from me; here it is…
Rebecca and Jeff’s Outdoor Art Club wedding was my dream wedding.
I know what you’re thinking, and no, it’s not because it was in California and the couple is a total knockout. It is because the bride and groom are some of the warmest human beings I have ever met.
Rebecca’s maid of honour found me on Instagram almost a year ago, and since we were in completely different countries throughout the entire planning process, we weren’t actually able to meet in person until the day before her wedding. I’d be lying if I said that situations like this don’t make me even the slightest bit nervous; but over the last few months, I noticed that she shifted from being a complete stranger with a dreamy venue to an actual friend who would text me her wedding details as she was planning and tell me how excited she was that I thought her bridesmaid dresses were drool-worthy.
This entire weekend was one of the most welcoming experiences I have ever had. From the second I met Rebecca in person at her venue and was greeted with the cutest “AH YOU’RE HERE!” and a hug, to the moment I left the reception and Jeff gave me one of the kindest farewells (after karate-kicking with his best man) I could almost tangibly hold the love they have towards everyone around them. From just being around them over the course of this day, it is so easy to see why their friends and family were so infatuated and overjoyed with their relationship. They are generous, gracious, and thoughtful, and I am so thankful that a simple hashtag posted on social media at the perfect time brought them into my life.
R+J — You are everything. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of this day.
One of my absolute favourite parts of their (and any) ceremony was when their officiant Itamar asked them to turn to their family and friends as their bridal party raised signs that read “I can feel the sun whenever you’re near” — and yes, those are Beyoncé lyrics!
