I feel like one of the most overlooked parts of planning an engagement session is how important choosing a location can be.
It’s obviously super important to choose a location that your photographer is confident will photograph well and that reflects their shooting style. What is even more important, though, is choosing a location that has lasting meaning to you and your partner. The cottage engagement session that I’m sharing with you today focused on exactly that!
Jenny and Steve decided to photograph their engagement session at a family cottage located on Wilcox Lake — hilariously only two minutes down the road from my parents house! This night with them was unforgettable for so many reasons. To start off with, their cottage not only made for a super photogenic evening, but it also set the tone with an aura of comfort and ease that I really don’t think they would have had from any other spot!
What I love most about their choice is that these photographs are not only tied to this night, but to a lifetime of memories at their family cottage on Wilcox Lake.
Every time I think about these photographs hanging around their home, I think about them sparking all of the other memories they have together at their cottage with loved ones over the years and all of the memories they’ll build together in the years to come! With a spot tied so closely to family like this one is, it’s even more incredible to think of future generations seeing their engagement photos and pointing out the spots on the property where they were celebrating a huge milestone years prior!
