There is nothing more inspiring than creating for the joy of creations sake.

This has been the exact idea behind working with my dear friends Alex and Lauren from Forever Wildfield and Flourish Calligraphy on our annual Spring shoot for the past two years. A mutual love of spring blooms and a desire to create wedding inspiration that is outside of what our average bride is looking for with their wedding designs brought us together and allows for us to make work that blows our expectations out of the water each and every time.

For this shoot, our team was inspired by the idea of working with a colour palette that most of our couples would shy away from.

Initially sparked by lush purple blooms that were just coming into season in Ontario, we decided to bring together tones that are rarely paired together in an effort to show that bold colors can be used in a way that isn’t overpowering.

With a seasonal bouquet made up of deep purples, terra cottas, and softened by lilac, Forever Wildfield set the stage for an editorial with a feeling of richness while still incorporating femininity. We brought in elements like a tactile mauve velvet tablecloth, minimal gold tableware, all within a crisp white studio space. It was all about creating contrast without losing out on the timelessness most brides aim for with a neutral color scheme.

One of my favourite aspects of the shoot beyond the colour choices is the mixture of various textural elements.

Lauren from Flourish Calligraphy brought together a stationery suite that featured multiple tones of handmade paper almost mimicking clay in some areas. Her work brought in an organic feel that kept a classic tone alive when playing off of our more sleek choices like the minimalistic flatware and candle holders.
