To know Amy and Shawn is to fall in love with them, and that is exactly what I did during this session.
At home sessions were always something that totally excited me and terrified me all at the same time; I think there is something so magical about trying new things as a photographer, but spending time in a couple’s space is also such an intimate experience. In my mind, I always had such a fear of going into a client’s home and not even knowing where to begin. This session totally changed that for me. The second I stepped into Amy and Shawn’s home, I felt this incredible warmth that just fills their whole relationship.
Their home is such an important part of their relationship, and it was actually the place where Shawn asked Amy to be his wife!

Shawn and I met at work a little over three years ago! I took over a grade 2 teaching position at the school he was working at and he happened to be my student’s gym teacher. I could tell right away he had a bit of a crush on me. Even my students noticed how often Mr. Raha would pop into our class! They actually started to tease him and say “Mr. Raha loves Ms. LaRiviere!” Staff members were even encouraging him to ask me out, well after we had started secretly dating!
When he decided to propose, he immediately knew that it would be over Christmas which is my favourite time of the year! After opening all our gifts, I started to clean up the wrapping paper. He disappeared, our song started to play, then he got down on one knee in front of our Christmas tree and popped the question. Lots of tears and kisses followed. It was perfect and so fun to share the news with our families over the holidays.
