Today I am introducing you to one of my favourite people

Jillian of Glow. Hair and Beauty and I met back in February while I was shooting an engagement session with Shaw Events and I immediately had a girl crush on her when she walked in the room with the biggest, most infectious smile, wearing the most laid-back-yet-somehow-chic outfit of all time. She has since then become my absolute go-to for all things hair and makeup related, including taming my own mane  which was in a permanent bun before she got her hands on it! This woman just oozes talent, style, and warmth, and I’m so happy that I got to spend an afternoon with her in Thorold for this months #WeddingVendorWednesday!

Tell us a bit about how you started in the wedding industry!

After a long journey of figuring out where I wanted to be in the hair world I fell more and more in love with the idea of being a part of the wedding industry. Styling hair has always been my favourite part, and becoming a new business owner has allowed me to completely jump into the water head first. Once I decided to put everything I had in to my business, I wanted to be able to offer it all! So that’s when I got more educated with makeup applications and a spiffy new kit and now I’m proud to say I can offer both! Seeing how great I get to make the bride and her party feel is the best feeling in the world for me.

What does a typical day in the life look like for you?

A day in the shoes of Jilly always involves hair, whether I am going to work or popping in the studio to book appointments! But, I am a little bit more exciting than that! I am a foodie, and I love eating out as something social to do with friends or family (and typically a few hair consults happen in that time, haha!) I exercise daily whether it’s going to the gym, a hike, or of course going for runs along the canal with the Tito!

Speaking of Tito, let’s get to the most important part of this; tell us about this employee of yours and his role at the salon.

Hahaha! Tito is my main receptionist. He does all of the meet and greets for me and he’s the best at helping me break the ice with any new clients! He’s such a sweet, loyal pup and has a hilarious obsession with balls. I include him in most of my activities and I don’t really go anywhere without him. I consider us a packaged deal! I seriously could go on and on about this guy!

Do you have any current trends in hair or makeup that you are head over heels for?

I always find it difficult to answer this because I love so many looks right now! However, I am always obsessed with makeup that has a natural, dewy vibe. I think it gives a little something classy but doesn’t over do it. As for hair, braids, braids, braids! You can literally do anything with them! And let’s face it, they are gorgeous on anyone!

What is something completely unrelated to your job that you are really loving lately?

This is going to sound very strange and probably unexpected… But now that the warmer weather is here I actually really enjoy cutting my grass! Hahaha, but seriously! I am also a home owner, so lately I have been looking into doing some renovations so of course that involves sitting on Pinterest for hours, and let’s face it, who doesn’t love that! Oh and endless hours of throwing the ball to Tito on the fresh cut grass!

Do you have any advice for future brides hoping to look their best on their big day?

BE YOURSELF! I know there are tons of different hair and makeup options to go with, but the last thing you want to do is look back and say you didn’t feel like yourself on your wedding day. So stick with what is comfortable for you! I always stress that.
