I’ve said this hundreds of times and I don’t think I will ever stop saying it. Meeting couples who I genuinely love is by far my favourite part of being a wedding photographer.

From the very first email that I received from blogger Emily of What Emily Said when she was on the hunt for her wedding photographer, I knew that we would be such a good fit for one another. She immediately dove into what she was envisioning for their wedding day in Muskoka and it seemed like we bonded so quickly over the smallest things. As soon as she started talking more and more about her love story with Andrew and their lives together in Ottawa, I knew that I just had to be a part of this time in their lives together!

Since their proposal story is what really made me fall in love with Emily and Andrew as a couple, here it is in their own words!

From the bride… Andrew proposed in August of last year! I had received media tickets to see the new Cirque du Soleil show, and with his birthday being August 5th, I knew it would be a great way to celebrate with him a few days early. He booked us a nice dinner at a newly opened restaurant and I thought nothing of it, knowing we were celebrating a night out!

After a delicious meal and a great show, we hopped in the car to drive home. Andrew missed our turn twice, but again I thought nothing of it because it was dark and late. All of a sudden the car jerked to the left and he told me there was something wrong with the car, so he pulled into the parking lot at the beach we frequently ride through on our bikes. He had me get out of the car and look under it with him to make sure everything was alright (it was, this was all a ploy!) and as I turned around to get back in the car, he called my name.

I turned around and it was there, illuminated by the headlights of the car, that he got down on one knee and proposed. I was SO surprised that I also dropped to my knees, clarified a few times that “this is really happening????”, hyperventilated, potentially blacked out and obviously said yes. The ring was designed by my best friend’s aunt. He had been working on it since January since the jeweler is in my hometown of Huntsville. In addition to the fact that we get to spend together forever, he also put so much thought, time and sentiment into designing not only my dream ring, but having it made by a close family friend. SO special to me!

I feel like this story is such a perfect example of how much thought and intention that Emily and Andrew put into everything that they do!

Of course, their engagement session plans were no exception to this! We ended up deciding on a Dundurn Castle engagement session, and I could not be happier with how things worked out. This has always been one of my absolute favourite locations in the GTA, and is probably the first place that made me really start to fall in love with Hamilton. I’m sure once you see these love-filled images, you will know exactly why!
